Salesforce buys Loops for $30M to replace Tableau dashboards with AI agents
Dashboards are dead. Salesforce is buying Loops to turn Tableau into an AI agent that tells you exactly why your metrics just tanked.

What happened
Salesforce is acquiring Israeli AI startup Loops in a deal reportedly estimated at $30 million. The startup builds artificial intelligence agents that monitor business metrics and explain exactly why they change. Salesforce plans to integrate the Loops team and its specialized technology directly into Tableau. This move aims to shift Tableau from a traditional data visualization tool into an autonomous analytics platform. The transaction is expected to close in early November of Salesforce fiscal year 2027.
Loops was founded in 2020 by Chief Executive Officer Tom Laufer and Chief Technology Officer Ido Adiv. Laufer previously led growth and analytics for Google across the EMEA region. Adiv is a former software engineer who led research and development teams within the technology and intelligence units of the Israel Defense Forces. The company operates in Tel Aviv and the United States. They raised a $14 million seed round in 2022 led by Scale Venture Partners. Other backers included Cardumen Capital and prominent product executives like former Airbnb product lead Lenny Rachitsky.
The core product uses machine learning models and causal analysis to identify factors affecting revenue, conversions, customer retention, and user engagement. Last year, Loops expanded its platform by launching Scout. Scout is an AI agent that watches key performance indicators around the clock. When it finds anomalies or trends, it investigates the root causes and generates summaries. Scout then pushes these insights directly to users via Slack and email. This headless approach means users never have to log into a dashboard to understand their data.
Key facts
- $30 million — Reported estimated value of the Loops acquisition
- $14 million — Seed funding raised by Loops in 2022
- 10 — Number of Israeli companies Salesforce has acquired to date
- 2020 — The year Loops was founded
Why it matters
The era of staring at static charts is coming to an end. Companies do not want to hire people just to pull data and build corporate dashboards anymore. They want headless analytics that proactively push insights and recommended actions to where teams already work. Tableau built its empire on helping people see and understand data. Now, Salesforce realizes that visualizing data is no longer a sufficient competitive advantage.
This signals a massive shift in the enterprise software market toward agentic artificial intelligence. The new standard is software that acts as an automated data analyst. It must explain why something happened and tell the user what to do next. Every analytics tool on the market will now be forced to build causal AI capabilities or risk becoming obsolete. Furthermore, this acquisition highlights a clear trend of tech giants buying up specialized AI startups to modernize their legacy platforms. Salesforce has now acquired ten Israeli companies, including recent massive deals for Own, Zoomin, and Doti.
For builders
Build headless tools for existing workflows
Loops won by pushing insights directly to Slack and email instead of forcing users to open a separate application. Builders must integrate AI agents into the communication channels where enterprise users already spend their time. If your tool requires a new login, you will lose to one that meets users where they are.
Move from what happened to why
Dashboards that simply display numbers are rapidly becoming commodities. If you build data tools, your software must use machine learning to explain the root cause of metric changes. Customers will pay a premium for actionable insights but will churn if you only provide raw data.
Incumbents are buying agentic AI
Salesforce is actively acquiring startups to bring autonomous capabilities to its older products. Founders building specialized AI agents have a clear exit path. You can secure lucrative acquisitions by solving specific workflow bottlenecks that legacy tech giants struggle to fix internally.
My take
Dashboards are dying, and Salesforce knows it. I have been saying that looking at data is not a job anymore. The future belongs to builders who create AI agents that actually understand the numbers and tell you what to do next. Salesforce is buying Loops because they realize static charts are useless without causal AI to explain them.
