Mistlabs launches Ambi: The AI that listens all day and negotiates for you
Ambi listens across your Apple devices to act before you ask, and soon its agents will negotiate with each other in real time.

What happened
Mistlabs just pulled its ambient AI system, Ambi, out of beta for Macs, iPhones, and Apple Watches. It secured a 26 million dollar Pre-A round led by Luminous Ventures and Shanghai-based Huaqin Technology. Chief Executive Peter Mo says most AI platforms are built just to complete tasks. Ambi does not wait for you to type a prompt or press a button. It listens to your conversations across devices and acts before you even ask.
The system builds a persistent memory of your work. If you discuss competitors in a meeting, Ambi fact-checks the conversation and drafts a proposal on your MacBook before you leave the room. The context follows you from your laptop to your phone without resetting. You can also set up recurring tasks called Routines where multiple background agents handle the work and flag missing information as projects move along.
The wildest part is coming in a few months when Ambi agents will negotiate with each other. If two users sit in a meeting, their agents will draw on what they know, cross-reference priorities, and bargain toward a mutual agreement while the humans talk. Users set the permissions governing what the agents can do, and audio storage is turned off by default. Mistlabs is also using its funding to build a dedicated wearable device coming later this year to gather even more context about users and their surroundings.
Key facts
- $26 million โ Pre-A funding raised by Mistlabs
- iOS 18 โ Apple mobile operating system required for Ambi on iPhones
- Huaqin Technology Co. Ltd. โ Shanghai-based smart device manufacturer co-leading the round
Why it matters
The era of the standalone chatbot is ending. Builders need to shift from reactive tools to proactive systems. Ambi proves that context persistence across a device ecosystem is the new baseline for user experience. Users will no longer tolerate explaining the same project to an AI every time they switch from a laptop to a phone. If your product requires a wake word or a manual prompt, it is already falling behind the curve.
The second-order effect is the rise of agent-to-agent protocols. When AI systems start negotiating on behalf of users, the value moves from simple task completion to alignment and bargaining. Software will need standardized ways for agents to communicate, verify permissions, and resolve conflicts without human intervention. Trust and permission management will become the hardest engineering challenges for founders. Whoever controls the hardware captures the deepest context, which explains why Mistlabs is pushing into wearables.
For builders
Build for continuous background context
Stop building AI that resets after every session. Users expect systems to remember what happened on their desktop when they open their phone. If you force users to re-explain their work, you lose them to ambient platforms.
Agent-to-agent negotiation is the frontier
Mistlabs is pushing agents to bargain with each other in real time. This opens a massive opportunity to build the infrastructure, protocols, and permission guardrails for AI-to-AI communication. B2B software will soon require agent-facing APIs.
Hardware is the ultimate context moat
Mistlabs is using its funding to build a wearable because phones and laptops have limits. Hardware captures environmental context that software alone cannot reach. Founders building AI hardware must partner with manufacturers to scale.
My take
I have been saying that AI needs to move from a tool you use to a system that works alongside you. Ambi listening to your day and negotiating with other agents is exactly where this tech was always heading. The privacy rules are being written after the fact, but the builders who figure out continuous context will win the next decade.
